Radiation facilities network - INFAN

Network Introduction

The INFAN network, an acronym for ‘Irradiation National Facility Network’, aims to create a synergy between the irradiation infrastructures dedicated to users in the country and managed by INFN.

INFAN promotes close scientific, technological and technical collaboration in the management and maintenance of infrastructures for external users. This collaboration is based on respect for the skills and experience of each individual operating reality on the territory. The aim is not only to improve the management and functionality of the facilities, but also, and above all, to establish a common denominator between all INFN’s facilities, creating an integrated and harmonised system that can maximise their efficiency and quality.

Network Goals

The INFAN network pursues the following objectives

  • Creation of an Internal Network: Establish an internal INFN network that fosters scientific, technological, technical and infrastructural exchange between the various units. This exchange aims at obtaining a mutual operational advantage, improving the synergy and efficiency of the activities carried out.
  • Creation of a Generalised Infrastructure: Develop a generalised infrastructure based on national services, including information, beam-time calls and access procedures to INFN radiation facilities. This system is designed for scientific and third mission purposes, respecting local usage and customs. The different local facilities will be integrated into a single abstract infrastructure, making access and use of resources easier and more coordinated.
  • Creation of an acronym within CSN-V: Establish an acronym within CSN-V to manage the collection of funding for the implementation of innovative and experimental operational solutions, including detectors and hardware and software infrastructure. These resources will be shared ownership and common use, thus supporting the enhancement and sustainability of the network itself.
